FUE vs. FUT: Which Is Right for You?
Most balding occurs because hair follicles stop producing hair, often in an ever-enlarging patch or at the forefront of the hairline. FUE and FUT both reverse the visible effect of balding by extracting healthy follicles from areas that are still producing hair (usually the back of the head) and transplanting them where they are needed. In time, these hair restoration treatments deliver remarkable results that are unlike anything that can be accomplished by over-the-counter methods.
While the principle behind FUE and FUT are the same, the methods differ. FUE involves individually removing follicles and relocating them via micro-incision. It is minimally invasive, requires minimal recovery times, and leaves behind little-to-no scarring. FUT is a more affordable but also somewhat more invasive option. The surgeon will remove a thin strip of the scalp, separate it into tiny grafts, and transplant them as needed. A linear scar will result, but it is easily covered by growing out the surrounding hair. Visit our hair transplant clinic to learn more about these methods and determine which best suits your needs.
HAIR TRANSPLANT RECOVERY
The healing and recovery process is crucial in the days and weeks immediately following surgery, which lasts 4 to 8 hours, depending on the size of the hair transplant. After the procedure, it is common to experience swelling, itchiness, and slight discomfort in the affected area.
Our doctor may prescribe antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications to help you manage those side effects. We will bandage your scalp for at least a day or two following the transplant operation because there may likely be some swelling. Placing a cold compress on your head can also reduce swelling.
Avoid excessive exercise and contact sports during the hair transplant recovery phase because these activities increase blood flow to the scalp and could lead to bleeding from your incisions. Our doctor may ask you to schedule a checkup to ensure that the affected area is healing well.
HAIR GROWTH RESULTS
Patients who have had a hair transplant will recover and be able to return to work 2 to 5 days after the procedure. The transplanted hair will fall out two to three weeks following surgery, but new growth should appear 3 to 6 months later. Sixty percent of new hair growth is typically seen in 6 to 9 months. Hair transplants often last a lifetime, so you will never need to be concerned about hair loss again.
